  1. (06:52:21) Syd: Get ready for me to forget to do something and have to run all the way from one end of Rubacava to the other. Repeatedly.
  2. (06:52:25) Cheeseness: Those were the only ones we had confirmed though
  3. (06:52:35) Cheeseness: Year 2 is best year for a reason :D
  4. (06:53:02) Syd: I gotta remember to extend that bridge to the cat tracks. :P
  5. (06:53:56) Oughtobe [Mibbit@hide-E62F0318.san.res.rr.com] entered the room.
  6. (06:54:09) Oughtobe: Was Tim here last week?
  7. (06:54:13) Syd: I've been hearing (and saw a screenshot of it) that you can actually see the cats running around the track at one point, but I'm not sure how to see that.
  8. (06:54:14) Oughtobe: Hello everyone
  9. (06:54:25) Cheeseness: Hey Oughtobe
  10. (06:54:32) Cheeseness: No, Tim's hoping to join one of the later sessions
  11. (06:54:33) Syd: We've gotten word that Tim wants to join in either the next or final session.
  12. (06:54:36) Cheeseness: (probably the last one)
  13. (06:54:51) Oughtobe: Any guests today?
  14. (06:55:13) Syd: Everybody seems to be having schedule conflicts today. :(
  15. (06:55:20) Cheeseness: We had two lined up, but sadly, both of them have had stuff come up
  16. (06:55:22) Syd: Could still end up with a surprise visitor like we did last week though
  17. (06:55:24) Permafry_42 [Mibbit@hide-E0D9392C.vw.shawcable.net] entered the room.
  18. (06:55:31) Cheeseness: Hey Permafry_42
  19. (06:55:34) Oughtobe: Is it possible to have a webcam of the interviewee play on the screen with the gameplay going or is it always just text?
  20. (06:55:54) Cheeseness: We keep it to text so that the video doesn't become the main focus
  21. (06:56:09) Cheeseness: Chat here is much more open/participatory
  22. (06:56:16) Syd: Stream latency would make that kind of weird since the guests aren't the streamers. They'd be about 30 seconds or so behind what's being streamed.
  23. (06:56:33) Fhqwhgod [Mibbit@hide-3F88863A.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  24. (06:56:52) Cheeseness: Hey Fhqwhgod
  25. (06:57:02) Fhqwhgod: Hey chat
  26. (06:57:16) Permafry_42: Plus if we were going to do an interview like we have in the past, we'd want to be able to have questions about things not necessarily being shown in the game at the time
  27. (06:57:22) Permafry_42: and hi all!
  28. (06:57:22) Fhqwhgod left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  29. (06:57:58) Fhqwhgod [Mibbit@hide-3F88863A.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  30. (06:58:58) Syd: I've got a guide up just in case I need it, but I ran through year 2 last night so the puzzles should be pretty fresh in my mind.
  31. (06:59:14) Cheeseness: Year 2 is best year ;D
  32. (06:59:19) Fhqwhgod: year 2 is huge
  33. (06:59:27) GrimMonkey [Mibbit@A26E69F0.8BD37B5F.2E5731B7.IP] entered the room.
  34. (06:59:30) Syd: Though does anyone have any idea when/how to see the cats running on the cat track? I've seen a screenshot and heard about it but couldn't figure it out myself.
  35. (06:59:40) GrimMonkey left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  36. (07:00:04) GrimMonkey [Mibbit@A26E69F0.8BD37B5F.2E5731B7.IP] entered the room.
  37. (07:00:16) Cheeseness: Hi GrimMonkey
  38. (07:00:25) beansmyname: Syd, I couldn't find it either.
  39. (07:00:27) Cheeseness: Syd: I'm not sure. I went hunting for it myself too
  40. (07:00:41) GrimMonkey: hi cheeseness :)
  41. (07:00:48) GrimMonkey: hi all
  42. (07:01:01) GrimMonkey: is the live play happening now or in an hour?
  43. (07:01:04) SubcodeWiring [Mibbit@hide-BAAA29E9.hsi8.kabel-badenwuerttemberg.de] entered the room.
  44. (07:01:11) Cheeseness: GrimMonkey: Now :)
  45. (07:01:12) Syd: We'll be going live in just a moment
  46. (07:01:14) Cheeseness: Hi SubcodeWiring
  47. (07:01:18) Syd: Just doing some last-minute setup
  48. (07:01:18) GrimMonkey: cool
  49. (07:01:24) SubcodeWiring: Hi
  50. (07:01:54) Syd: Alright, let
  51. (07:01:58) Tinche [Mibbit@hide-A4E6CE25.zg.cable.xnet.hr] entered the room.
  52. (07:01:59) Syd: *let's do this
  53. (07:02:03) Syd: Let me know when we've gone live
  54. (07:02:03) Tinche: hello!
  55. (07:02:26) Cheeseness: Hey Tinche
  56. (07:02:32) beansmyname: We
  57. (07:02:38) beansmyname: have movie sign!
  58. (07:02:49) flesk: Rubacava has some great puzzles. I really like the cat track puzzle.
  59. (07:03:02) GrimMonkey left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  60. (07:03:17) Cheeseness: Syd: It looks like TIm's high up in that Vine
  61. (07:03:25) Cheeseness: It's not down below where the crowds are
  62. (07:03:40) SubcodeWiring: wooo :)
  63. (07:03:51) Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-7E0ABB16.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  64. (07:04:01) Cheeseness: Hey Sven_Q45
  65. (07:04:01) Sven_Q45: Hi.
  66. (07:04:05) Permafry_42: i really love manny's suit design
  67. (07:04:09) GrimMonkey [Mibbit@A26E69F0.8BD37B5F.2E5731B7.IP] entered the room.
  68. (07:04:32) Permafry_42: classy characters are always favourites of mine, like spy fox
  69. (07:04:38) Sven_Q45: Sorry for beeing late. Heck I missed the beginning!
  70. (07:04:44) Cheeseness: It's all good ^_^
  71. (07:04:50) SubcodeWiring: Manny channeling Bogie in that white suit :)
  72. (07:04:50) flesk: The cats? Wouldn't that be on the balcony between those two ticket sellers?
  73. (07:04:58) Sven_Q45: My favorite year! Year 2. :)
  74. (07:05:04) Cheeseness: Syd: flesk suggests the balcony between the two ticket sellers
  75. (07:05:14) Syd: I checked there at multiple points during my practice run and never saw them
  76. (07:05:17) GameClubFan_465035 [Mibbit@hide-5C71A2C5.client.mchsi.com] entered the room.
  77. (07:05:17) Syd: Hung around for a while too
  78. (07:05:28) GameClubFan_465035 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  79. (07:05:48) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: You didn't miss much - we had the cutscene last session
  80. (07:05:53) FinalBlink [Mibbit@hide-5C71A2C5.client.mchsi.com] entered the room.
  81. (07:05:58) Cheeseness: Hi FinalBlink
  82. (07:06:03) Sven_Q45: Had we?
  83. (07:06:15) FinalBlink: Hello Cheeseness
  84. (07:06:22) flesk: The elevator puzzle is neat too.
  85. (07:06:24) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: Yeah, I'm pretty sure
  86. (07:06:26) SubcodeWiring: Nice slide
  87. (07:06:32) Cheeseness: Ha ha, the slide
  88. (07:06:33) Cheeseness: :D
  89. (07:06:40) Syd: Having connection issues, hold tight
  90. (07:06:45) Cheeseness: Holding ^_^
  91. (07:06:49) SubcodeWiring: IDK how to do it properly with tank controls though :-P
  92. (07:07:00) Sven_Q45: Good! I thought it´s my connection again!
  93. (07:07:11) Cheeseness: So, I mentioned it last week, but I do love the way that Manny ends up being in charge
  94. (07:07:22) Syd: Blame the snow and wind I'm getting right now
  95. (07:07:34) Sven_Q45: SubcodeWiring Just walk to it and he slides. ;)
  96. (07:07:43) Syd: I think it's fine now?
  97. (07:07:47) Cheeseness: Seems OK Syd
  98. (07:07:54) Cheeseness: Sing the song!
  99. (07:07:59) beansmyname: With the tank controls, it's really easy and almost unavoidable to slide down the rail.
  100. (07:08:25) SubcodeWiring: I guess I should let go of Shift now and then :D
  101. (07:08:35) FinalBlink: I get to finally play this tonight ^^
  102. (07:08:36) Cheeseness: Ha ha, who lets go of shift?
  103. (07:08:37) Sven_Q45: Yes. :)
  104. (07:08:41) SubcodeWiring: But I like to run... Rubacava is huuuuuge
  105. (07:08:42) Cheeseness: FinalBlink: Awesome!
  106. (07:09:00) Cheeseness: How does Glottis continue to play the piano when his hands aren't on the keys?
  107. (07:09:05) Tinche: yeah Manny always ends up being in charge :)
  108. (07:09:06) Sven_Q45: I only run on big scenes. Indoor: not big scenes. ;)
  109. (07:09:16) flesk: Yeah, I think just walking up against the rail triggers that.
  110. (07:09:22) flesk: With tank controls.
  111. (07:09:29) Sven_Q45: flesk yea
  112. (07:09:34) Cheeseness: The commentary discussion about sliding is funny
  113. (07:09:58) Permafry_42: i love the mural in this background
  114. (07:09:59) Sven_Q45: Why?
  115. (07:10:10) Cheeseness: Oh, I'd never really noticed the mural there before
  116. (07:11:01) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness I think you understood playing it blind wrong. ;)
  117. (07:11:11) Cheeseness: Ha ha
  118. (07:12:20) Cheeseness: It's hard to not just watch and soak up the game
  119. (07:12:25) GameClubFan_787328 [Mibbit@hide-338878B7.oc.oc.cox.net] entered the room.
  120. (07:12:43) SubcodeWiring: a teeny bit of french bashing... this and the waiter... :)
  121. (07:13:25) Cheeseness: This guy is meant to be French?
  122. (07:13:52) SubcodeWiring: he just dropped a diss about who like to play roulette
  123. (07:13:58) Tinche: just getting a sleazy foreign vibe
  124. (07:13:58) Cheeseness: Ah
  125. (07:13:59) Sven_Q45: Lol all french and then: two. :D
  126. (07:14:06) Permafry_42: lupe is awesome
  127. (07:14:08) Fhqwhgod left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  128. (07:14:09) Cheeseness: Yay, Lupe
  129. (07:14:41) Cheeseness: There's also some nice exposition here hammering home that Manny hasn't lost sight of his search for Meche
  130. (07:14:44) beansmyname: Lupe is the best!
  131. (07:15:24) Permafry_42: Anyone know for sure if her voice was sped up?
  132. (07:15:26) beansmyname: Love the music change here.
  133. (07:15:29) SubcodeWiring: I like Carla better... somehow more... dirty? :)
  134. (07:16:04) Sven_Q45: That´s what Manny wanted: Not hearing the system. :D
  135. (07:16:09) GameClubFan_787328 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  136. (07:16:20) Cheeseness: I never got whether this was meant to be a dream sequence or not
  137. (07:16:27) Tinche: yeah
  138. (07:16:28) Cheeseness: It's never elaborated on
  139. (07:16:40) Tinche: I guess Domino is trying to force Manny to act?
  140. (07:16:46) Sven_Q45: I love games with jazz music in the background.
  141. (07:16:50) GameClubFan_057679 [Mibbit@hide-F7E28DAA.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  142. (07:16:54) Cheeseness: Does Domino even know he's there?
  143. (07:17:23) Tinche: it's kind of a big coincidence if that crow just happened to land there, in that moment, and say what it said
  144. (07:17:28) Sven_Q45: I don´t think it´s a dream.
  145. (07:17:36) Cheeseness: That was an awfully fleshy sound that the bottle made
  146. (07:17:38) SubcodeWiring: Well as you have to go past a decked-out "Calavera cafe" mural to the to the docks, I think Dom knows he's there :Ö
  147. (07:17:46) Cheeseness: Ha ha, maybe
  148. (07:18:00) Tinche: yeah, Manny even comments putting his name on there wasn't the best idea
  149. (07:18:07) SubcodeWiring: :)
  150. (07:18:14) beansmyname: Coincidence is the cornerstone of classic adventure gaming.
  151. (07:18:26) Sven_Q45: And movies.
  152. (07:18:50) Tinche: Manny gaining skills like a pro
  153. (07:19:05) Sven_Q45: But it´s the land of the death. It´s possible there. It´s nmot the first moment to have such a "news" (?) crow.
  154. (07:19:16) Sven_Q45: dead.
  155. (07:19:19) Tinche: these are special crows
  156. (07:19:27) Tinche: bred by someone, HL maybe?
  157. (07:19:33) Tinche: it's mentioned somewhere
  158. (07:19:43) Cheeseness: Ah, that's right
  159. (07:19:51) FinalBlink: Well, Im off to play this game before it gets too spoiled for me :)
  160. (07:19:57) Cheeseness: Enjoy, FinalBlink
  161. (07:20:03) FinalBlink left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  162. (07:20:13) Cheeseness: I love the Sea Bees ;D
  163. (07:20:17) Sven_Q45: Cheese now a finalblink ;)
  164. (07:20:34) GameClubFan_057679 is now known as Schmuhf
  165. (07:20:36) Tinche: there's a small inconsistency here in how Manny and everyone else pronounces "Naranja"
  166. (07:20:50) Syd: I only recently learned that Sea Bees are (sort of) and actual thing
  167. (07:21:13) SubcodeWiring: Tim also mentions it in the commentary :)
  168. (07:21:48) Permafry_42: looking forwards to playing through again for the comentary myself. really fun addition imo
  169. (07:21:54) Cheeseness: The echo in the music when you're outside there is a super nice touch
  170. (07:23:55) Permafry_42: i love the poems =D
  171. (07:24:00) Cheeseness: And there's this https://twitter.com/year2poetry
  172. (07:24:01) beansmyname: Anyone else content to create a beat poem that goes on for hours?
  173. (07:24:08) Tinche: I bet someone had a lot of fun putting there together
  174. (07:25:36) Cheeseness: Viva la revolucion \o/
  175. (07:25:49) Tinche: look at Manny with the lingo
  176. (07:26:06) Cheeseness: Poor Olivia
  177. (07:26:54) Tinche: Olivia ends up as the girlfriend of HL
  178. (07:27:02) Tinche: wonder if that was the case even here
  179. (07:27:29) Cheeseness: Poor everyone in this game :D
  180. (07:27:57) Tinche: "he's not good at finding things?" hehe
  181. (07:28:40) Sven_Q45: Tinche What things? :D
  182. (07:28:55) Tinche: you can take it as vaguely sexual I guess
  183. (07:29:24) Syd: Just gonna periodically save as a safety measure. :P
  184. (07:29:27) SubcodeWiring: a lot of double entendres in the dialogue :)
  185. (07:30:01) Sven_Q45: Tinche That´s what I think!
  186. (07:30:11) Sven_Q45: The reason I asked. ;)
  187. (07:30:20) Tinche: well they kiss all the time without lips
  188. (07:30:28) Tinche: I suppose they can do the nasty without the actual bits
  189. (07:30:46) Sven_Q45: Tinche Again: What lips?
  190. (07:31:10) Sven_Q45: Hrhr ok quit that now. :D
  191. (07:32:46) Cheeseness: I love how these guys are clueless, but on a very specific tangent
  192. (07:34:52) SubcodeWiring left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  193. (07:34:54) Cheeseness: How long did it take everybdoy to get through Year 2 when they first played?
  194. (07:35:15) Tinche: it was too long ago to remember :)
  195. (07:35:17) Syd: Felt like an actual year. :P
  196. (07:35:20) Cheeseness: heh
  197. (07:35:30) Sven_Q45: haha
  198. (07:35:31) Sven_Q45: +
  199. (07:35:34) beansmyname: back in 1998, probably a day or two.
  200. (07:35:52) Cheeseness: His little dance ^_^
  201. (07:35:59) beansmyname: Since I would have stopped playing for a bit to sit on the puzzles that had me stuck.
  202. (07:36:00) Cheeseness: I think it took me a few weeks
  203. (07:36:18) Sven_Q45: I dunno. :(
  204. (07:36:32) Permafry_42: i love video game lawyers
  205. (07:37:37) Tinche: Permafry: any other examples? I'm drawing a blank
  206. (07:37:38) Sven_Q45: But today I´d need 1 hour. But you can´t play year 2! You must "run" the game in background to enjoy the atmosphere.
  207. (07:38:14) Sven_Q45: The atmo is so f.... (sorry Cheese) great! :)
  208. (07:38:46) Cheeseness: This is why you're meant to play on your own
  209. (07:38:59) Cheeseness: The focus is meant to be the discussion not the video - it's not intended to show everything
  210. (07:39:03) salty-horse [~salty-hor@hide-5556DCDC.red.bezeqint.net] entered the room.
  211. (07:39:05) salty-horse: hello!
  212. (07:39:09) Tinche: hi!
  213. (07:39:09) Cheeseness: Hey salty-horse
  214. (07:39:14) salty-horse: which engine is this?
  215. (07:39:21) Cheeseness: This is the remastered edition
  216. (07:39:30) Cheeseness: So the modern port of the original engine
  217. (07:39:36) Sven_Q45: @Cheese I didn´t talk about the club today. Just wanted to say that it is great. ;)
  218. (07:39:41) Tinche: I guess it bears mentioning Tim confirmed on Twitter that the body dictactes the flowers, not the ammunition
  219. (07:39:45) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: Oh, right ^_^
  220. (07:39:49) Tinche: when someone gets sprouted
  221. (07:39:51) Permafry_42: ... phoenix wright?
  222. (07:39:51) Cheeseness: Yeah
  223. (07:40:22) Tinche: Permafry: never played :)
  224. (07:40:25) salty-horse: Tinche, that's obvious from some lines. characters are surprised by the type of flowers that grow
  225. (07:40:31) Permafry_42: (that was in response to tiche), and yeah its really good
  226. (07:40:51) Permafry_42: a bit linear puzzles, but i really like it
  227. (07:41:27) Permafry_42: same with professor layton, though it has much better puzzles
  228. (07:41:35) salty-horse: how do you like the verb coin interface?
  229. (07:42:04) Syd: I like it
  230. (07:42:16) Tinche: tank controls 4 lyfe
  231. (07:42:20) Permafry_42: http://www.giantbomb.com/lawyer/3015-1905/characters/ has a list of lawyer characters in games
  232. (07:42:23) salty-horse: numpad 4 ever
  233. (07:42:30) Cheeseness: salty-horse: Last week, there was discussion about whether it was flower specific ammunition - somebody claimed to recall some lines about that
  234. (07:42:49) salty-horse: Cheeseness, something like "daffodils. I never expected that"
  235. (07:43:01) Cheeseness: salty-horse: Yeah, it was that line that sparked the discussion
  236. (07:43:11) Tinche: hehe thanks for the link
  237. (07:43:16) salty-horse: so, is this time to talk about how the breadcrumbs puzzle of switching items between places makes no sense?
  238. (07:43:23) Permafry_42: np it makes a funny read
  239. (07:43:26) beansmyname: For some reason, I was expecting tulips.
  240. (07:43:33) Cheeseness: salty-horse: Go for it :D
  241. (07:43:34) salty-horse: beansmyname, yes :)
  242. (07:43:38) salty-horse: ok:
  243. (07:44:20) salty-horse: 1) when you're first playing the game, you don't understand what's the lingua thing is, except it's something to do with the restaurant. then it goes on and on. I ended up doing things not understanding why
  244. (07:44:26) Cheeseness: Sanspoof
  245. (07:44:31) Permafry_42: to be honest there's a lot of puzzles in old adventure games that are a bit convoluted
  246. (07:44:43) salty-horse: 2) that's an awful way to hide things. behind multi-organization bureaucracy
  247. (07:44:43) beansmyname: sanspoof is a great name.
  248. (07:44:56) Sven_Q45: Von Karma from Phoenix Wright. I didn´t like him!
  249. (07:44:58) salty-horse: does sanspoof means something in Spanish?
  250. (07:44:59) Tinche: it's a puzzle that makes sense once you know it
  251. (07:45:31) salty-horse: Tinche, it makes sense after you're done, but still only in a pure logic way. it doesn't make sense plot wise
  252. (07:45:38) Tinche: permafry: agreed, I've had to resort to 'use everything on everything' a number of times back when I played these games for the first time
  253. (07:45:51) Cheeseness: lol, there's an Urban Dictionary page for Sanspoof
  254. (07:45:52) salty-horse: so, what's the cat tuna made from?
  255. (07:46:02) ***The_Mad_Pirate thinks in spicy horses
  256. (07:46:04) beansmyname: That was the only way to solve certain puzzles.
  257. (07:46:17) Permafry_42: i like the lion print for the high rollers hallway
  258. (07:46:35) Permafry_42: year 2 has a lot of interesting backgrounds
  259. (07:46:52) salty-horse: also, the whole number 9 ticket scam makes no sense
  260. (07:46:56) GameClubFan_167003 [Mibbit@hide-CE5F205D.dynamic.clientes.euskaltel.es] entered the room.
  261. (07:47:01) Tinche: salty-horse: yeah, it's a little convoluted that lola would have time to visit all these places while being chased by virago
  262. (07:47:05) Sven_Q45: Really? A page on UD for sanspoof. Great. Love that!
  263. (07:47:08) salty-horse: and why are there skeletons walking around everywhere??? huh?!
  264. (07:47:19) salty-horse: Tinche, yup
  265. (07:47:44) salty-horse: great scripting in the next scene
  266. (07:47:51) salty-horse: in the back room
  267. (07:48:07) salty-horse: LOL!
  268. (07:48:17) Tinche: hmmmm
  269. (07:48:18) salty-horse: is this pre-LOL?
  270. (07:48:22) flesk: Yeah, the back room conversation is great.
  271. (07:48:24) salty-horse: I mean, pre internet
  272. (07:48:31) Tinche: they actually mention the dead go back to the land of the living for the day of the dead
  273. (07:48:48) Syd: The internet was definitely around but I don't know if LOL was a thing yet or not
  274. (07:49:06) Permafry_42: i remember lol being in a really old aol internet ad i saw a few months ago
  275. (07:49:16) salty-horse: LOL - lands of lore
  276. (07:49:17) Sven_Q45: Rats! No strip search. :D
  277. (07:49:28) Cheeseness: Land of the Living
  278. (07:49:30) salty-horse: BURP
  279. (07:49:31) salty-horse: BURP
  280. (07:49:36) Cheeseness: That's what LOL has mostly referred to in this game
  281. (07:49:44) Tinche: cheese, exactly
  282. (07:49:59) Tinche: in year one eva says everyone's back in the land of the living IIRC
  283. (07:50:07) Tinche: and now as well
  284. (07:50:23) salty-horse: Tinche, visiting relatives
  285. (07:50:31) Tinche: so I guess the dead can take the blimp to the land of the living
  286. (07:50:35) Permafry_42: i love the idle conversation here
  287. (07:50:47) Cheeseness: This is great
  288. (07:50:47) Tinche: is it a mexican folkore kind of thing?
  289. (07:51:05) salty-horse: so, how are poeple paying for the trips that manny sells? how do the computers decide what they deserve?
  290. (07:51:16) Cheeseness: The changing dialogue options thing had happened in previous LucasArts adventure games, but IIRC, you stopped them by selecting any option
  291. (07:51:24) Tinche: based on whether you were a good person I guess
  292. (07:51:28) salty-horse: if it's supernatural how could people mess with it?
  293. (07:51:45) Sven_Q45: I like Mannys short answers. Carla doesn´t care. :D
  294. (07:51:46) Cheeseness: Being able to select stuff without it stopping her helps highlight how they're not communicating at all
  295. (07:52:00) salty-horse: Cheeseness, this isn't just changing dialogue. the overlapping dialogue makes it so natural
  296. (07:52:09) Permafry_42: in mexican folklore the money left in your grave can be taken to the next life
  297. (07:52:30) Cheeseness: I don't know if "natural" is the right term, but it definitely works
  298. (07:52:33) The_Mad_Pirate: such an amazing scene
  299. (07:52:54) salty-horse: WHAT
  300. (07:52:57) Cheeseness: Aww, it's over
  301. (07:53:02) Cheeseness: Syd: Why?
  302. (07:53:03) Cheeseness: ;_;
  303. (07:53:07) beansmyname: I love this scene and how you can drag it out.
  304. (07:53:15) salty-horse: MI2 Elaine vibe
  305. (07:53:16) Sven_Q45: Permafry_42 Yes I read about that on a German test about GF.
  306. (07:53:28) Cheeseness: Manny is so smooth
  307. (07:53:49) Schmuhf: Drop dead, she said
  308. (07:54:11) Permafry_42: actually the greeks believed something like that too. they burried the dead with coins in their mouth
  309. (07:54:18) flesk: Cheeseness: I believe Curse of Monkey Island had changing dialogue options in the song scene.
  310. (07:54:21) salty-horse: Permafry_42, that's for charon
  311. (07:54:28) Cheeseness: flesk: I think Monkey 2 had an instance as well
  312. (07:54:30) salty-horse: Charon's tax to cross the river Styx
  313. (07:54:35) beansmyname: To cross the River Styx.
  314. (07:54:37) beansmyname: :D
  315. (07:54:40) Permafry_42: yeah exactly
  316. (07:54:51) flesk: Cheeseness: Yeah? I don't remember that, but it's possible.
  317. (07:54:58) salty-horse: but in the GF lore, I think you pay for the trip with good deeds
  318. (07:55:08) The_Mad_Pirate: Carla is so sensitive
  319. (07:55:09) Cheeseness: But Curse's was different in that it actively changed the song
  320. (07:55:17) salty-horse: and if you haven't accrued them while being alive, you pay for it by working it off...?
  321. (07:55:32) Cheeseness: In this, the punchline is that neither of them are really listening to each other
  322. (07:56:01) salty-horse: BUT. why do people prefer staying where the DOD got them, instead of doing the walking? do they not deserve even the walking stick?
  323. (07:56:05) The_Mad_Pirate: meeeeeeeeeeecheeeeeeeeeeee
  324. (07:56:26) salty-horse: and do you NEED the walking stick? would you not be allowed in at the gates?
  325. (07:56:26) Syd: My connection is being weird again
  326. (07:56:30) Syd: Hope it doesn't cause too many problems
  327. (07:56:36) salty-horse: Peter Lorre
  328. (07:56:36) beansmyname: Would it have really mattered if Manny just wanted to hang out with the sailors?
  329. (07:56:46) beansmyname: What's wrong with hanging out with sailors?
  330. (07:57:07) salty-horse: and how come Manny's journey just happened to be 4 years, which is the time it takes to walk it?
  331. (07:57:24) Schmuhf: I just realized how much I forgot about my last playthrough of Grim, approx 5 years ago
  332. (07:57:28) Syd: "Better not show that to Glottis" *immediately shows it to Glottis*
  333. (07:57:35) Schmuhf: I could start now
  334. (07:57:36) Sven_Q45: Dead is a big folklore in old Mexico, Greece and Egypt I think.
  335. (07:57:59) beansmyname: Schmuhf: I completely understand. It's been over a decade since I last played GF and my memory had shortened the game to a 90-minute short story.
  336. (07:58:10) The_Mad_Pirate: bet Glottis bet bet bet
  337. (07:58:28) Cheeseness: salty-horse: More of that coincidence thing :D
  338. (07:58:32) salty-horse: SO, bad people know they won't be allowed into the next world, so they prefer to stay in this one, and make money selling stolen tickets to other bad guys, which die anyway before reaching the gates, but none of them really know that?
  339. (07:59:07) salty-horse: so what's his face the lawyer didn't know the ticket isn't worth anything
  340. (07:59:12) Sven_Q45: This underworld is not that bad it seems. :)
  341. (07:59:14) salty-horse: or maybe he didn't think he was corrupt?
  342. (07:59:40) salty-horse: fligth of the luftwaffe soundtrack there
  343. (08:00:00) salty-horse: I HAD NO IDEA
  344. (08:00:31) Cheeseness: Poor Glottis
  345. (08:01:58) salty-horse: Max doesn't have lip syncing.
  346. (08:02:02) salty-horse: it's the default cycle
  347. (08:02:04) salty-horse: for every line
  348. (08:02:12) Cheeseness: There are a few characters like that
  349. (08:02:14) salty-horse: (I think)
  350. (08:02:25) salty-horse: Cheeseness, I implemented that in Residual :P
  351. (08:02:32) Cheeseness: Nice :D
  352. (08:02:54) Cheeseness: How many ResidualVM contributors do we have in here at the moment?
  353. (08:02:59) salty-horse: (without knowing what I did). I read interviews where the team said they used the Microsoft Agent code to generate the lipsync data from the audio
  354. (08:03:00) Cheeseness: Would you guys like to talk about the project a little?
  355. (08:03:07) salty-horse: and then I read about Microsoft Agent
  356. (08:03:29) salty-horse: and found out what the "phonemes" are, then tried to figure out what the format of the lipsync file is
  357. (08:03:58) salty-horse: sec
  358. (08:04:39) Cheeseness: Subtle key drop there
  359. (08:04:55) Cheeseness: I love that we can hear Glottis in the background
  360. (08:05:09) GameClubFan_167003 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  361. (08:05:30) GameClubFan_957476 [Mibbit@hide-CE5F205D.dynamic.clientes.euskaltel.es] entered the room.
  362. (08:06:33) salty-horse: http://www.enderboi.com/log.php?log=scummvm.log.07Sep2004&format=html
  363. (08:06:47) salty-horse: see 21:15
  364. (08:06:49) Tinche left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  365. (08:07:11) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness And not loud. That´s not the case in all adventure games!
  366. (08:07:18) salty-horse: I made this at that time: http://i.imgur.com/Kdm7r6O.png
  367. (08:07:21) Cheeseness: :D
  368. (08:07:42) Cheeseness: salty-horse: Neat!
  369. (08:07:46) salty-horse: I also have a font development screenshot :)
  370. (08:07:54) salty-horse: this was when I used windows to code :D
  371. (08:08:17) Cheeseness: Would you like to describe Residual for anybody who hasn't heard of it?
  372. (08:08:39) salty-horse: no, no fonts screenshot
  373. (08:08:39) salty-horse: ok:
  374. (08:09:09) Syd: Too slow. :(
  375. (08:09:27) Cheeseness: I like that you get to use the scythe for a puzzle
  376. (08:09:33) salty-horse: Residual was created as a sister project to ScummVM, implementing Grim Fandango. It was separate because the tech required for 3D is different than 2D, and the amount of platforms supported by ScummVM could not be the same as Residual
  377. (08:10:06) salty-horse: It was started by Ender/Endy/Enderboi, one of the first ScummVM contributors and co-project lead.
  378. (08:10:22) Sven_Q45: Now here´s a possible dead end in GF!!
  379. (08:10:40) salty-horse: Sven_Q45, really? not the elevator bug?
  380. (08:11:18) Sven_Q45: Use the scythe after that puzzle with the closet and you don´t have it in year 3 where you need it!
  381. (08:11:19) Schmuhf: oh Glottis...
  382. (08:11:24) Sven_Q45: Tried myself.
  383. (08:11:38) salty-horse: Sven_Q45, report a bug!
  384. (08:12:08) Sven_Q45: Not a bug really. :D But the script is from 1998. :D
  385. (08:12:25) salty-horse: Sven_Q45, residual fixes those bugs. and so will Double Fine
  386. (08:12:40) salty-horse: Sven_Q45, the game should at least give you the scythe in the next year
  387. (08:13:19) salty-horse: so. I was looking for a programming project and decided to try implementing some missing stuff in GF. (Missing just because no one got to it, not because it was hard). I didn't use any reverse engineering of the exe, because I didn't know how. I just guessed how the fonts are stored, and how the lip syncing data is stored, and tried to implement it in the game
  388. (08:13:20) Cheeseness: See, nobody in this game is without torment
  389. (08:13:26) Sven_Q45: But when you really loose your scythe you shouldn´t have it in year 3.
  390. (08:13:30) GameClubFan_801798 [Mibbit@7BB26D1E.3D6DE697.771F561.IP] entered the room.
  391. (08:13:33) salty-horse: so it was fun seeing things work at the end :)
  392. (08:13:33) Sven_Q45: ;)
  393. (08:13:52) salty-horse: Sven_Q45, maybe manny has spares
  394. (08:14:17) Sven_Q45: :D
  395. (08:14:21) Tinche [Mibbit@hide-A4E6CE25.zg.cable.xnet.hr] entered the room.
  396. (08:14:22) salty-horse: the elevator bug was patched in the original 1.01 patch
  397. (08:14:30) salty-horse: (timing issue)
  398. (08:14:36) salty-horse: (on some processors?)
  399. (08:14:39) Tinche left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  400. (08:14:40) Tinche1 [Mibbit@hide-A4E6CE25.zg.cable.xnet.hr] entered the room.
  401. (08:14:45) flesk: Cheeseness: You use the scythe for at least a couple of other puzzles later on too.
  402. (08:14:45) Sven_Q45: I never had issues with the elevator. :P
  403. (08:14:56) Cheeseness: flesk: Yeah
  404. (08:14:59) salty-horse: me neither
  405. (08:15:15) Peder left the room (quit: Client exited).
  406. (08:16:05) salty-horse: bad camera
  407. (08:16:28) salty-horse: the start of this scene didn't really work
  408. (08:16:40) flesk: I don't think I ever had problems with it either. Other than solving it.
  409. (08:16:55) salty-horse: flesk, I mean the camera angle in the corridor when manny is stopped
  410. (08:16:56) Sven_Q45: salty-horse Well I didn´t play the Remastered yet. So I can´t say this mistake is still there.
  411. (08:16:58) Cheeseness: Bret Mogilefski (one of the guests who wasn't able to make it today) is also a ResidualVM contributor, right?
  412. (08:17:10) flesk: salty-horse: Oh, I meant the elevator.
  413. (08:17:11) salty-horse: Cheeseness, no. he emailed the main dev a bit
  414. (08:17:27) Lightkey left the room (quit: Input/output error).
  415. (08:17:34) salty-horse: Cheeseness, he was also in chat oce
  416. (08:17:36) salty-horse: once
  417. (08:18:09) Cheeseness: Ah, I thought he'd been a little more involved
  418. (08:18:15) beansmyname: Carla has no reason to be jealous of that metal detector's sway over Manny.,
  419. (08:18:19) salty-horse: Cheeseness, he's not a developer, and I doubt he could be, due to intellectual property and the GPL and stuff, and the project not wanting to take risks
  420. (08:18:22) Cheeseness: He's hoping to join us for the last two sessions
  421. (08:18:37) salty-horse: so he could share REAL horror stories
  422. (08:18:44) Cheeseness: ;)
  423. (08:19:01) GameClubFan_957476 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  424. (08:19:02) Sven_Q45: lol
  425. (08:19:11) salty-horse: this is the stuff used by the GF lip syncing: https://web.archive.org/web/20040226035410/http://www.cloudgarden.com/JSAPI/docs/SAPI4Pronunciations.html
  426. (08:19:22) salty-horse: Microsoft Speech
  427. (08:20:01) Sven_Q45: Manny uses the pipette with the water but he looks behind him a few seconds after that.
  428. (08:20:06) salty-horse: Manny, I gave you clues to find my body
  429. (08:20:11) Cheeseness: Aww, Lola
  430. (08:20:47) jaxx left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 183 seconds).
  431. (08:21:06) salty-horse: Easter egg: Flowers spelt SEX in the sky
  432. (08:21:08) salty-horse: spelled
  433. (08:21:21) salty-horse: LENGUA? What could this mean???
  434. (08:21:26) Sven_Q45: did they?
  435. (08:21:29) salty-horse: no
  436. (08:21:34) salty-horse: that's the lion king
  437. (08:21:37) salty-horse: sorry :P
  438. (08:21:54) Sven_Q45: Maybe lengua means lua. :D
  439. (08:22:31) salty-horse: http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/pDYhUKrGD7U/mqdefault.jpg
  440. (08:22:32) Cheeseness: This makes Lupe's day
  441. (08:22:57) beansmyname: Lengua is really good in chimichangas.
  442. (08:23:02) Sven_Q45: salty-horse Yes I saw that once.
  443. (08:23:21) The_Mad_Pirate: I just love Lupe.
  444. (08:23:25) salty-horse: yes
  445. (08:23:30) Tinche1: apparently you can give this to glottis to sing
  446. (08:23:36) Tinche1: it's one of the achievements I think
  447. (08:23:40) salty-horse: Tattoo -> Scrimshaw. so cool
  448. (08:24:23) salty-horse: Tinche1, was the song in the original? I don't remember trying it
  449. (08:24:36) Tinche1: I don't know, I've never actually done it
  450. (08:24:37) salty-horse: so much walking in this game
  451. (08:24:40) Cheeseness: Syd: Did you spot that about Glottis singing?
  452. (08:24:45) Tinche1: just read it in an achievements guide :p
  453. (08:24:56) salty-horse: Cheeseness, I saw a video of it
  454. (08:25:17) Tinche1: you might need to get glottis kicked out first
  455. (08:25:34) salty-horse: Do humans feel pain when you drill into a bone?
  456. (08:25:44) Cheeseness: I think it feels pretty unpleasant
  457. (08:26:14) Sven_Q45: Pah I don´t need all of that. I used the lengua card with Glottis myself back then. :P
  458. (08:26:16) The_Mad_Pirate: hahahaha a guy called "orange"
  459. (08:26:28) salty-horse: why isn't he looking at him when they talk? the point and click stuff makes you not face something when using it
  460. (08:26:59) salty-horse: you broke it just when you managed to do the thing you needed
  461. (08:27:25) salty-horse: isn't it better to work on him when he's out?
  462. (08:28:10) PONTO [Mibbit@hide-14AC1CEA.cpe.netcabo.pt] entered the room.
  463. (08:28:13) Tinche1: :D
  464. (08:28:28) salty-horse: it's funny how he lists the red herrings
  465. (08:28:37) salty-horse: STUCK
  466. (08:28:38) PONTO: Hi everyone
  467. (08:28:39) salty-horse: WTF
  468. (08:28:50) Tinche1: hi Ponto
  469. (08:28:57) Sven_Q45: It´s not stuck.
  470. (08:29:06) Sven_Q45: Hi.
  471. (08:29:10) salty-horse: it felt stuck when he pulled the thing out of the book
  472. (08:29:15) salty-horse: it's HAT DAY
  473. (08:29:16) PONTO: So, anyone from DF here today?
  474. (08:29:38) Sven_Q45: salty-horse Yes dito when I first played it. ;)

  582. (08:45:54) Sven_Q45: Now work calls.
  583. (08:45:59) salty-horse: and I can't find the font screenshot. it's funnier. I printed the fonts in ASCII in the console
  584. (08:46:10) GameClubFan_341523: Did I miss everything?
  585. (08:46:11) Cheeseness: :D

  589. (08:46:25) Tinche1 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).

  595. (08:46:46) salty-horse: found it.
  596. (08:46:47) salty-horse: sec
  597. (08:46:59) GameClubFan_341523: Ah, that's a shame.
  598. (08:47:11) Cheeseness: We should have Oliver Franzke and Bret Mogilefski next week (plus maybe Peter McConnell and Matt Hansen depending on their availability
  599. (08:47:22) Cheeseness: And Tim is hoping to join us for one of the two remaining sessions
  600. (08:47:24) GameClubFan_341523: Cool. I'll try and make next week!
  601. (08:47:30) Cheeseness: :)
  602. (08:47:39) salty-horse: http://i.imgur.com/2tEbBrq.png
  603. (08:48:07) Cheeseness: Nice
  604. (08:48:15) salty-horse: not sure what this is: perhaps someone asked me to compare the original game with some test code in Residual: http://i.imgur.com/2IwS513.png
  605. (08:48:16) Sven_Q45: hope for the 4th session.
  606. (08:48:23) Cheeseness: You should totally post this stuff in the thread. It's neat to see some insight into Residual's development as well :)
  607. (08:48:38) salty-horse: Cheeseness, ok. saving this log so I can remember
  608. (08:48:47) GameClubFan_341523: I really want to know why they've not fixed the obvious bugs in the PC version yet. I support DF through so much nonsense, but I'm very sad that it still says GOLO FLAKES, that there's missing art in the art viewer, and that the commentary doesn't work in some scenes (like the one with Chepito). I don't know if they're even aware of this stuff :(
  609. (08:49:23) Cheeseness: I'm pretty sure that the missing art has been noted
  610. (08:50:08) Cheeseness: I'd never noticed a problem with the gold flakes bottle texture
  611. (08:50:26) GameClubFan_341523: It's two and a half weeks since release. We can't expect them to fix bugs forever. Dropping in the missing art, or shrinking the number by one should be an easy fix.
  612. (08:50:41) GameClubFan_341523: I just want to get this stuff in before they finish it forever.
  613. (08:51:11) salty-horse: GameClubFan_341523, there could always be a GF Remastered Remastered
  614. (08:51:15) Cheeseness: It'd be a good idea to send something to support@doublefine.com or make a thread in the forums
  615. (08:51:27) Cheeseness: Isn't that what Grim Fandango Deluxe is for? :D
  616. (08:51:40) salty-horse: Did they fix the bottle shadow bug I reported in the forums?
  617. (08:51:49) GameClubFan_341523: Yes.
  618. (08:52:13) Cheeseness: salty-horse: I haven't been watching the changelogs, so I'm not sure. Did you get any responses in the thread?
  619. (08:52:19) GameClubFan_341523: Yes, I'll probably send an email. It just saddens me. I've defended them so much in the past.
  620. (08:52:39) GameClubFan_341523: @salty-horse: Is that the shadow on the floor of the bottle? If so, yes it's fixed.
  621. (08:52:44) salty-horse: Cheeseness, not from a DF person.
  622. (08:52:56) Cheeseness: If you had've been here last week, you could've asked Lee Petty directly about the texture thing :D
  623. (08:53:06) GameClubFan_341523: I know. Arg.
  624. (08:53:15) Cheeseness: salty-horse: Alrighty, shoot me a link to the thread and I'll see if I can raise it
  625. (08:53:24) salty-horse: sec
  626. (08:53:35) salty-horse: http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/16120/
  627. (08:53:36) Syd: I gotta head out. See you all next week. :)
  628. (08:53:42) Cheeseness: Unless it's fixed like GameClubFan_341523 says
  629. (08:53:45) Cheeseness: Thanks Syd!
